Motherhood
And
Key Points to Raising Children

Part 1. Motherhood

Motherhood- To watch over, nourish and protect; care for.

Genesis 3:20

20 Then the man—Adam—named his wife Eve, because she would be the mother of all who live.

Fact: We are all genetically linked back to one original woman!

Eve was “The mother of all who live.” She is the 1st biblical example of motherhood for us woman. Let us look at her closely for a minute and see as a mother what her 1st act was. Read Genesis 4: 1. It reads:

Now Adam had sexual relations with his wife, Eve, and she became pregnant. When she gave birth to Cain, she said, “With the Lord’s help, I have produced a man!”

Her 1st act as a mother was to acknowledge that God was the one who gave her her son. This is a awesome example for our motherhood, we should always acknowledge God 1st in everything that we do!!!

Key Point: We should always acknowledge God 1st in all we do!!!

Motherhood is a big responsibility, its not to be taken lightly. Leviticus 20:9 stresses to society how sacred parental roles are to God. It reads:

9 “Anyone who dishonors* father or mother must be put to death. Such a person is guilty of a capital offense.

God called it a “Capital Offense” to dishonor your parents. See, children are not without charge, they have a responsibility to their parents just as the parents have a responsibility to them. Psalms 113:9 says “a foolish child” brings grief to his mother.

Motherhood takes commitment regardless of others opinion, especially as a Christian mother, Luke 12:53 tells us that even our family may turn on us (for our Christianity) but that is the price we have to be willing to pay to raise our children properly!

Part 2. Key Points to Raising Children

Point 1. Discipline

Proverbs 29:15

“To discipline a child produces wisdom,
But a mother is disgraced by an undisciplined child.”

When disciplining a child we must remember to be kind but firm in our correction. In keeping this balance consistently we are showing our child love and our ways will ultimately teach our child to be self disciplined. Our children will then carry our wisdom and produce the fruit of self control. If we refuse to discipline our children we are showing a lack of love and our children will rebel with lack of self control. When a child has no self control it brings shame upon us mothers because it shows somewhere along the line we did not do our job consistently!
(This applies to any situation, God gave us doctors and medicine, it’s up to us to utilize the tools he gave us when it is absolutely necessary to help our children, or selves!)

Point 2. Love

Isaiah 49:15

“Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child?
Can she feel no love for the child she has borne?
But even if that were possible,
I would not forget you!

In today’s world you will see terrible things involving women and their children; it makes you wonder “How can they not care about their children?” There is no woman alive who doesn’t care about their child, there are just sins in this world that have corrupted God’s order for woman and children- to the point of destruction, that is Satan’s job….It is ours to make sure as Christian woman we are doing our part and we are loving our children, and teaching younger woman to do so also.

Point 3. Comfort

Isaiah 66:13

“ I will comfort you there in Jerusalem
as a mother comforts her child.”

It is our job to not only love and discipline but it is our job to comfort our children , as God would comfort us, comfort means to bring a sense of security to our children regardless of the trials they face. Our comfort and love will encourage our children to do the right thing no matter what they face. It is our job to instill the same comfort in our children that God will lovingly allow you to feel. One thing a child should be able to depend on is it’s parents loving arms during times of trials and tears. What strength we can draw from the warmth!

Point 4. Individual Accountability

Ezekiel 18:19-20

‘What?’ you ask. ‘Doesn’t the child pay for the parent’s sins?’ No! For if the child does what is just and right and keeps my decrees, that child will surely live.  The person who sins is the one who will die. The child will not be punished for the parent’s sins, and the parent will not be punished for the child’s sins. Righteous people will be rewarded for their own righteous behavior, and wicked people will be punished for their own wickedness.”

We must be held accountable for our sins before God, but, our children must be held accountable for their own personal sins also. We are to instill in our children all that they will need to grow up and be productive citizens; it is up to them whether they take the knowledge and use it properly or not. They will be held accountable for their own sins not yours. A lot of parents feel guilty because their kids dint make the right choices in life but the reality of the situation is that the children grew up to be adults and they had the knowledge of right from wrong, whether they were raised properly or not, and they chose to do wrong- that is not your fault that is theirs….

Point 5. Obedience

Page 4. Motherhood and Key Points to Raising children

Ephesians 6:1

“Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do.”

It is important for us to be obedient unto the Lord so that our children can have a living example, a role model to follow, teaching them daily to do what is told to do. You must obey you parents as the Lord commands but we must also remember that if what they ask us to do goes against Gods will for our lives then we are to obey God first, that is tough to swallow but there are a lot of parents who are not being obedient to Gods word! As parents we must also remember not to be domineering bullies to our children either- obedience is respect for authority, not fear of authority. Children are to obey while they are under their parents care and respect as adults but as they move out on their own they have a right to live their own lives. Remember obedience is submission to one another!

Point 6. Abuse

Colossians 3:21

Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged.

Always remember to handle your children with care! Look at it like this, they aren’t your children, they are God’s, your just babysitting them here in this life…We are supposed to use a firm hand when we are raising our children, administered in love of course, but there is a line that we can cross. Parents are not to be nagging, disrespectful, or abusive in any way that will encourage a child to have a low self esteem. All children need guidance and structure in their lives, but the structure is needed to teach boundaries and guidelines to be able to be a productive citizen, and a good Christian, not to force a child to be a slave to whatever our desires are. Children like to know their boundaries that way once they are known the child is able to fly free within those boundaries- securely, with respect and comfort!

Qualities of a Good parent:

They work hard to instill Godly qualities in their child.
They value honest and teach it to their children.
They listen to their children patiently.
They are open to correction and growth as a parent.
They are just in their discipline.
They are at peace under stress.
They place God first and make their home his temple.
