SUFFERING

Suffering Defined:
1. To allow, to let, permit ( mark 10:14)
2. Be in pain, go through troubles ( Matt 16:21)

1. KEY POINTS ON SUFFERING

A. We suffer sometimes in obeying God Ex. 5:4-9
B. We should have the right attitude Lev. 26:40-45
C. We can avoid some suffering Jud 6:16
D. God allows it sometimes 1 Sam 5:6-7
E. Reveals phony Christians Job 1:9
F. Cannot destroy our purpose Job 3:23-26
G. Tests our values Job 14:22
H. We must be good comfort to others Job 16:1

NOTE: Being a good comfort Job 16:1
1. Dont just talk the talk ( be silent)
2. Dont sermonize and pat answers
3. Dont accuse or criticize
4. Put yourselves in others shoes
5. Offer help and encouragement
NEVER NOT HELP A CHRISTIAN IN NEED!!!

2. KEY POINTS:

A. Proper response to suffering-
1. Trust in God ( Job 21:22)
2. See the good ( Phil 1:12-14)
YOUR RESPONSE TO SUFFERING REFLECTS YOUR BELIEFS.

B. Suffering demonstrates our loyalty to God ( Ps. 44:9-22)

C. Keep hope in the fact our suffering is not always, one day it will end.
( 1 Cor 15:50-53) Rev. 7:17 tells us there will be no more sorrow or suffering in heaven!

D. Matt 8:32-33 says we must have a willing attitude to suffer for righteousness sake.

E. Luke 21:18, 36 says sometimes we have to be apart of prophecy being fulfilled,
the suffering we endure may not even be for us directly- we were just affected by it.
He rains on the just and the unjust blessings, but good and bad also suffer in calamities...

F. John 9:2-3 says that some are meant to suffer to show Gods glory it is not a result of direct sin
on anyone's part necessarily.

G. 1 Thess. 3:1-3 says troubles are a part of Christianity- we are actually guaranteed to suffer
as part of the role. If you do not suffer at all then you need to self evaluate who you serve!

H. Romans 8:17 raises the question how much suffering must we endure?
We must use Christs suffering as a measuring stick. We suffer but NEVER as much as
he did for us, only he could do that, so if you think you are suffering re read Jesus' suffering!

I. Phil 1:29 tells us missionaries deserve the churches full honor and respect because
they go where no one else will go. The bible tells us the benefits of a suffering missionary
should be:
1. Warm welcomes- CHRISTIAN LOVE from their brothers and sisters.
2. Honor- they deserve it!

J. Troubles and suffering can be an effective sign that you are living as a christian ( 1 Thess 3:1-3)

K. 2 Thess 1:4 says that being faithful and enduring through suffering and troubles is important.
Patience and faith are needed through our trials (Rev. 2:10).
We are to have no fear through our trials and tests, not even when facing death!

L. James 1:2-4 says to expect troubles as a christian. We are to look at it as "growth opportunities".
they help our faith and character grow.

M. 1 Peter 4:1-2 SIN LOOSES ITS POWER WHEN WE SUFFER:
1. Suffering allows us to be christian
2. We should not avoid it and seek comfort in material things
3. We can overcome by focus
4. Always remember WWJD?
5. Pain and Danger reveal our values
6. Suffering for good is righteous
7. We are to suffer for good

N. Rev 2: 9-11 says DO NOT let your suffering drive you from Jesus!
Pain is a part of life for everyone, especially Christians.
We are to let our troubles draw us nearer to God as the Smyrna's did!

We must always remember that troubles DO NOT last always.
If suffering defeats you then you have failed god's test!!!
